Stoke Newington Places to Visit

Stoke Newington Church Street
Stoke Newington Church Street runs from Stoke Newington High Street to Green Lanes. It also skirts Clissold Park, a popular recreational area. Church Street celebrates all things ‘local’, and boasts a wide range of useful, independent shops. The local residents are supportive of the independent businesses along this street, and as such, Church Street is a popular place for locals and visitors alike. You’ll find an array of cafes, restaurants, pubs, and boutique shops. The entrance to Abney Park Cemetery is also on Church Street, which provides a tranquil place to sit or walk.

Clissold Park
Clissold Park first opened in 1889. It is a community park spanning over 50 acres of land. Its facilities include tennis courts, table tennis tables, a games area, a lake, a café, a deer enclosure, a market garden, and a children’s playground. It is the perfect place for sports, recreational activities, relaxation or a picnic. It is located at the western end of Stoke Newington Church Street.

Stoke Newington Farmers’ Market
Established in 2003 by Hackney-based Growing Communities, this weekly farmers’ market is held every Saturday morning in St Paul’s churchyard. This was the first farmers’ market in the UK to offer only organic produce, and to this day, all the produce at the market is organic or biodynamic. The market allows residents and visitors to source produce which is grown locally.

Stoke Newington Literary Festival
This festival was launched in 2010 to celebrate the area’s literary history, and is still running today. A not-for-profit organisation, the organisers also support various literary projects in Hackney. The festival promotes a love of learning through reading, and the team behind the event are ‘vocal supporters of our local libraries’.
