While politicians wrangle over Brexit, the impact on the economy – and the housing market is difficult to call.

The good news is that if you’re looking to sell your home, spring is a great time to do it. And if your property is in Islington, Newington Green or Hackney, there are undeniably buyers out there.

There are also a few things you can do to get ahead of the game when it comes to making your home attractive. Based on new research, Ideal Home magazine has come up with the key tasks, they claim will guarantee a quick sale.

We’ve all heard about giving your home a fresh lick of paint, sticking to neutral colours, decluttering and making sure it smells nice, but here are five things you may not have thought of …

  1. First impressions

Your home’s exterior is the first thing that buyers will see, so tidy the gardens, get planting and give your front door a lick of paint in a bright, attractive shade. It’s thought that great kerb appeal can add much as £55,000 to the value.

  1. Invest in a pre-sale survey

This can really help by revealing any issues in advance. You may not be able to tackle big repairs, but you can factor them into your sale price – plus you’ll appear organised and transparent to potential buyers.

  1. Fix the damage and get cleaning

Fill any cracks, replace broken tiles and fix anything that detracts from the overall polish of your home. Then give it an ultra-deep clean so it’s sparkling to look at and smelling fresh.

  1. Create a pet-free zone

Smelly pets have been named as the fourth most off-putting issue by prospective buyers. Finding a welcoming temporary home for cats and dogs, while viewings are taking place, could be a deal breaker.

  1. Leave it to the professionals

Leave viewings to your estate agent – they are experts in presenting homes in their best possible light and highlighting the most saleable features.
